The family business is reescognised as one of the region’s most respected and enduring local institutions.
The business started April 14, 1976 when Giuseppe Campisi opened E&J Campisi Butchery on the corner of Edmondson Avenue and Fifteenth Avenue in West Hoxton.
Over the decades, the business evolved into Campisi Continental Butchery, earning a strong reputation for traditional Italian butchery and authentic southern Italian smallgoods.
Known affectionately as Joe, Giuseppe built more than a successful business. He created a community cornerstone that has supported local sports clubs, emergency services, multicultural organisations and countless community events throughout Liverpool.
Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun praised the Campisi family for their commitment to quality, family values and community spirit.
Together with his late wife Maria, Giuseppe raised three children - Jessica, Joanna and Eugenio - all of whom contributed to the family business, with some continuing to work there today.
Mayor Mannoun described the business as a true family legacy that reflects the strength and character of Liverpool’s small business community.
The dedication of long-serving staff has also been central to the business’s success. Manager Sam Lipari first joined the butcher shop as a 14-year-old in 1978 and remains with the business more than 45 years later.
Giuseppe’s son-in-law Roberto also joined straight after high school and has played a key role in the company’s continued growth.
In 2007, Campisi Continental Butchery relocated to its current premises at 218 Fifteenth Avenue, marking a major new chapter for the business while maintaining the traditions and values established from the beginning.
The milestone celebration also carries sadness following the passing of Giuseppe’s wife Maria in October 2025.
Mayor Mannoun acknowledged she would have been immensely proud of the family’s achievements and thanked the Campisi family for their lasting contribution to Liverpool’s community spirit and identity.
