The first ever Sydney Hills Business Awards for Community Contribution will recognise local businesses that have shown great support for community groups, events, services and organisations.
The awards are an initiative of local businessman Adjunct Professor Jim Taggart and Baulkham Hills State MP David Elliott.
The purpose is to formally recognise businesses that make the community a more enjoyable place.
Hills Shire Mayor Dr Michelle Byrne has given her support to the idea and is asking members of the community to join in and nominate businesses for their efforts.
“The business people I’ve met are about more than the bottom line – they look out for their community,” Mayor Byrne said.
Mayor Byrne said that we all benefit from local business sponsorships and donations and it was time we thanked them for their continued support.
“It may have been in the form of a donation of goods, contribution of skills, sponsorship of a team, or even just a helping hand. In some way, local businesses have helped us all.
“We want to reward that kind of generosity, and that’s why we have launched the Sydney Hills Business Awards for Community Contribution.
“So if you know a local business that deserves to be recognised for the good work they do in our community, I want you to grab a form, fill it in and nominate them now,” Dr Byrne said.
Professor Taggart said that many local businesses supported the community selflessly.
“These businesses are out there doing their best to help people and the community as a whole. I think that’s something that is well worth recognising and well worth shouting about,” Professor Taggart said.
“Every local sports club, charity or community organisation has received some assistance, whether it be financial or in other resources, from a local business.”
“Let’s give them the pat on the back that they well and truly deserve.”
